UT Austin Engineering Hosts ‘Girl Day,’ Biggest Event of its Kind in the U.S.
AUSTIN, Texas — The Women in Engineering Program in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin will host more than 10,000 children, parents and educators from cities across the state for its 17th annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day and Girl Day STEM Festival, a daylong event filled with activities that help spark creativity, inspire future careers and show how engineers and scientists can change the world. Elementary and middle school students will engage in 150 activities and hands-on educational experiences, from designing a balloon-powered car to watching physics and chemistry in action.
With over 1,400 volunteers from UT Austin, nonprofit organizations and local businesses, Girl Day has become the largest event of its kind in the U.S. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day is presented by Halliburton and the Girl Day STEM Festival is presented by Texas Instruments.

Join us for our Maker Mixer at thinkery on Thursday Feb. 15th. Doors open at 6pm with with our state of the faire presentation starting at 6:45. Learn about this year’s Maker Faire, mix with other Makers, volunteers, and meet the staff. We’ll have opportunities to sign up to volunteer and how to be part of our production team, as well as information on how you can help promote the faire! We will have music, and entertainment. Beer, wine, and nosh will be served. Tickets are limited, so RSVP before they are gone!
In celebration of the exhibition Pong to Pokémon: The Evolution of Electronic Gaming, the Bullock Museum will transform into Austin’s top arcade. Travel through time as you play your way through a veritable history of gaming. Classic arcade cabinets as well as the most recent gaming platforms will be represented in this tribute to video games. Keep your quarters because free games, drinks and bites are included.
