Julia Lamorelle

CEO and Co-Founder Julia provides her expertise in the classroom and when developing Kiwi as a business. Julia is passionate about innovative solutions in education, and believes that it is the foundation to a successful future. Through experiences working with youth, she understands how to meaningfully engage and connect with students. Her wonderful relationship with middle school students shines through in the classroom, where Julia shows that each student is special and capable of anything. Julia co-founded Kiwi to provide every child with an opportunity to explore technology, find their passions and build confidence to learn. While Kiwi is open to all students from any background, experience level and demographic, Julia is passionate about women in tech and building self-confidence in young girls. She loves working with younger girls in the Kiwi classroom because “women teaching women in tech is the most powerful weapon in the fight for gender equality.” When Julia isn’t in the classroom, she runs Kiwi as CEO. As CEO of a startup, she oversees all aspects of the business and ensures that Kiwi stays true to its core values. Julia is a firm believer in innovative education opportunities for all kids and that coding is an amazing tool to teach youth (especially young girls) feel empowered. She incorporates these beliefs in her strategies and long term visions for Kiwi.

What inspired you to make this project or participate?
We want to reach as many students in Austin as possible. Kiwi is a very new organization and it's crucial that we participate in events that are visible to the community, like the Maker Faire.

Kiwi also wants to participate in the Maker Faire to show students that anyone can code. It's not as abstract and daunting as young kids may think. Once they work with us, they are less intimidated by coding and more open to learning more.
