Maker Faire Austin at Palmer Events Center

Thanks so much to Stephen and OC at The Habit of Seeing: Visual Storytelling for capturing so many magical Maker Faire moments and putting them all together into this amazing video!

Craft Lab was amazing this year, packed full of fantastic projects that kept young and old engaged for hours! String and Rope was the theme, and included projects like potholders on mini looms (and one collaborative one on a custom-made giant loom!), embroidery, god’s eyes, and much more. On Sunday the Boy Scouts brought rope making, knot tying, and lashing which was a big hit. Craft Lab is ALWAYS an essential part of our Faire and a fascinating space that’s hard to leave! There’s so much to get into for all skill and interest levels.

This year we launched our FIRST ANNUAL Maker Fashion Show at the Faire. It was a fabulous start, and we can’t wait to see it grow bigger and better each year!

This was our first year having a DARK ROOM as part of our Faire and it was fantastic! The Dark Room will definitely be a fixture from now on!

This year Maker Faire Austin is fortunate to have AudioBody performing. Matt Tardy and Steve Corning combine music, comedy, and technology to perform an electrifying show which includes kaleidoscopic LED strobes, thrilling visuals, juggling, music, contortion and hilarity. The outcome is a show which entertains people of all ages, whether you are 3 years old or 103. They create and build wacky musical inventions including a 15 foot wide drum set rigged with bungee cords, a button mashing robot, and electronic jumpsuits that create sound effects as well as play music. AudioBody’s multifaceted training, and one-of-kind performance has brought them all over the US and abroad. Some highlights include the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, Disney Cruise Lines, and even The White House in Washington DC three times! You may also have seen them on America’s Got Talent, CBS Sunday Morning, Inside Edition, and David Letterman.

AudioBody will be playing 11:30 AM -12:15 PM and 3:30 PM – 4:15 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. Look for them in the Dark Room!

MEGA EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT: TIN SPIDER WILL BE AT MAKER FAIRE AUSTIN THIS YEAR!! Tin Spider is a Walking Dome with massive mechanical legs inspired by Theo Jansen’s Strandebeests. Visiting all the way from California OMG!!
